Peter LaBarbera, founder of the website Republicans For Family Values (http://www.rffv.org/), issued the following statement today:

We who know his real record celebrate the news that the media’s favorite fake “conservative,” Mitt Romney, has abandoned his GOP presidential bid. Congratulations to Mass Resistance’s Brian Camenker and all those who worked so hard to expose the truth about this man who, frankly, deceived many. Camenker’s report, “The Mitt Romney Deception,” was the linchpin of our campaign to expose Romney’s incredible string of flip-flops, anti-family sellouts and conveniently-timed conversions to the pro-family cause.

Said Camenker: “It’s quite astonishing that a rag-tag army of truth-tellers was able to take down the most well-funded and best organized political campaign in modern times — which was also in collusion with the “mainstream” conservative movement.”

Sadly, Brian is correct: the facts about Romney’s record that should have been reported by major “conservative” and pro-family leaders – such as his continued embrace of homosexual “special rights” laws and the $50 co-pay for abortion as a “benefit” resulting from his state health insurance plan — were left untold. Curiously, major conservative opinion-leaders like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham, Mark Levin and Hugh Hewitt – who readily bashed Mike Huckabee and John McCain for being too liberal — couldn’t bring themselves to expose the Real Romney.

Worse yet, some major Christian pro-family leaders failed in their role to inform the public about Romney’s social liberalism. Curiously, some embraced Romney even though his (post-pro-life-conversion) record on abortion paled in comparison to Mike Huckabee’s 100% pro-life record — and despite the fact that Romney’s (current) pro-homosexual-special-rights advocacy broke with decades of pro-family tradition. We know that some of these groups accepted large donations from Romney.

Right up to Super Tuesday, millions of Christians and conservatives – relying on talk radio and not hearing the truth from some major Christian organizations – were ignorant of Romney’s pro-homosexual, liberal record, demonstrating the lack of fair play of key conservative and pro-family leaders who — at the very least – should have exposed equally the warts of all the GOP contenders.

Politics is a tough business, but is it wrong to expect conservatives – and especially Christian leaders – to conduct it with more integrity?

This was a David vs. Goliath battle, and shows that truth is more powerful than fiction. Now we must be vigilant as many of the same opinion-leaders will try to perpetuate their own myth by selling Romney as the “conservative” standard bearer waiting in the wings.

Super Tuesday Exposes Folly of Pundits Proclaiming Pro-Gay Romney as ‘Conservative’

Peter LaBarbera of the Republicans For Family Values website (www.rffv.org) offered the following lessons and observations from Super Tuesday’s surprising Huckabee performance:

Perhaps Mitt Romney should pull out of the race: he cost the more conservative Huckabee a victory in both Missouri and Oklahoma; says Texas pro-family leader Kelly Shackelford: “You’re not a conservative if you can’t win the south. The south has spoken clearly- Huckabee is the conservative. … Losing in third place across the south, Romney needs to leave the race so true conservatives can coalesce around Gov. Huckabee.”

Factoring the anti-Huckabee bias of both the liberal media and pro-Romney conservative pundits like Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and Rush Limbaugh (which should be worth at least 10 percentage points) – plus Romney’s huge personal spending advantage — and it is clear that the real “two-man race” in the GOP is between McCain and Huckabee;

The voters rejected the pundits’ and broadcast reporters’ promotion of Romney as “the conservative” candidate – since on social issues, which matter most to the GOP’s loyal grassroots base of religious, pro-life voters, Huckabee is the true conservative (e.g., he opposes “gay rights” laws, in contrast to Romney, who said state gay rights laws “make sense”);

Evidence of conservative pundit bias: Ann Coulter’s trashed Mike Huckabee’s alleged past liberalism while she ignored Mitt Romney’s longtime pro-abortion-on-demand, pro-gay record and his current liberalism – including Romney’s public support for state homosexual “special rights” laws and his creation of a state health insurance plan in Massachusetts that ended up including a $50 co-pay for abortion as “benefit.” Later, after McCain moved ahead in the race, Coulter made a fool of herself by asserting that she would vote for Hillary Clinton — who is competing with Barack Obama over which Democrat is more pro-abortion and pro-homosexuality — rather than John McCain;

FOX News’ Sean Hannity and other conservatives should stop blatantly promoting Mitt Romney and belittling Mike Huckabee as a candidate; Hannity reached a new low when he led his viewers to believe (erroneously) that Huckabee had quit the race in Florida;

Evidence of the liberal media bias: the reporting on Huckabee’s speech urging a Human Life Amendment and Marriage Protection Amendment – making the Constitution more in line with “God’s standards.” News media like MSNBC (Joe Scarborough; see broadcast HERE) bristled at Huckabee’s religious reference while NOT reporting that the former Arkansas governor was merely offering rhetorical support for two planks that enjoy deep support among the GOP’s social conservative grassroots;

How much of the above bias and distortions surrounding anti-Huckabee/pro-Romney coverage result from standard anti-evangelical-Christian bigotry?

If Romney had been “Huckabee’d” by the conservative pundits – i.e., had they fully exposed the former Massachusetts governor’s extremely liberal past social record, unprecedented flip-flops, and current liberal positions – Romney likely never would have emerged as the purported “conservative” alternative to McCain;

Some social conservative leaders are clearly putting politics over principle by opting for a candidate – Mitt Romney – who fails in two critically important areas for religious conservative voters: opposing all aspects of the homosexual activist agenda and being consistently pro-life (we applaud Romney’s pro-life conversion, but since that conversion he has supported or enabled some anti-life policies such as subsidizing abortions as a health insurance “benefit“). We understand why the Club for Growth chose Romney (although Romney is not a genuine economic conservative), but for key evangelical leaders to downplay Romney’s liberal policies – especially his current and novel pro-homosexual positioning as a Republican FAVORING passage of state homosexual “special rights” laws – has damaged these leaders’ credibility;

There appears to be strong bias among conservatives in general that economic issues are more important than social issues (which is not to imply that Romney has a true conservative economic record); pro-life and pro-family voters should reject this.

Many pro-lifer and pro-family Republicans remain ignorant of Romney’s pro-homosexual-agenda record and his dubious pro-life record, including his support for stem cell research using excess embryos created during fertility treatments. Conservative media and some pro-life/pro-family leaders are complicit in not reporting or even covering up these crucial facts exposing Romney’s liberalism.

Says Rick Scarborough, founder and president of Vision America and a national leader among pro-life and pro-marriage advocates:

“I cannot support Mitt Romney. His conversion to the pro-life position is suspect and his ongoing support of homosexual rights is not. His position on the deity of Christ does not align with orthodox Christianity and his positions on abortion and Gay rights does not align with orthodox Mormonism.
Peter LaBarbera, founder of Republicans For Family Values (www.rffv.org), today criticized GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney for his “novel pro-homosexual positioning in the GOP.” On Dec. 16, Romney (the alleged “conservative” in the race) told NBC’s “Meet the Press” that “it makes sense at the state level” to enact pro-homosexual “sexual orientation” laws. Last week, CNN’s Roland Martin reported that Romney told him that he opposes “gay marriage,” but supports “gay rights.”

LaBarbera issued the following statement:

Mitt Romney just doesn’t get it on the homosexual agenda, and if he doesn’t get at after serving as governor of liberal Massachusetts — where “gay marriage,” homosexual adoption and pro-homosexuality indoctrination in schools ALL were advanced by the sort of pro-gay “sexual orientation” laws he’s now espousing — then he’s not going to get it at the federal level.

Romney is already using his bully pulpit as a candidate to affirm “gay rights”– even AFTER he’s earned the backing of pro-family leaders who seemingly would have much to teach him about the danger and misuse of pro-homosexual laws. (Note that Romney uses gay-affirming “discrimination” rhetoric even with regard to the Boy Scouts’ ban on homosexuals.)

I don’t know any serious pro-lifers who are pro-homosexuality. We all have compassion for homosexual strugglers, but we draw the line at laws that would distort “civil rights” to include sinful and changeable homosexual behavior — because these laws will be used to compel individuals, business and even ministries to violate their beliefs and support homosexual relationships (see the Weekly Standard article, “Banned in Boston,” about Boston Catholic Charities electing to close down its historic adoption agency rather than place kids in homosexual households.

Romney is trying to shift the GOP’s pro-family paradigm on homosexuality, and it’s an unwise shift — much like retreating from a principled position on pro-life (e.g., “I’m pro-choice but not pro-partial-birth abortion”). Due to Romney’s potential for being the “Nixon-goes-to-China” president who advances pro-homosexuality agendas in the GOP — I cannot support him.

Why do the same conservative pundits who have assailed Mick Huckabee and John McCain as too liberal, promote the fiction that Mitt Romney – who strongly defended abortion-on-demand and who remains in favor of anti-Christian homosexual special rights laws as a Mormon – is a “conservative”?

Shock poll: Huckabee leads in Michigan

“According to the latest Rossman Group/MIRS/Denno-Noor survey, the GOP contest in Michigan is now shaping up as a battle between Mike Huckabee (at 23 percent), Mitt Romney (at 22 percent) and John McCain (at 18 percent).” http://www.rossmangroup.com/press_releases/article_read.cfm

“I think the big stor(y) shaping up in Michigan (is) Huckabee’s leap to the top of the GOP field…,” said John T. Reurink, president of Michigan Information & Research Service Inc. (MIRS) newsletter.

The poll was conducted Jan. 6-7, after Romney had spent at least $1 million in television advertising in Michigan, as reported Jan. 2nd by the Detroit News, while Huckabee had had no paid advertising in the state. http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080102/POLITICS01/801020375

Gary Glenn, Midland, a volunteer spokesman for grassroots supporters of Huckabee in Michigan, said the new poll results “will put the motivation level of Gov. Huckabee’s volunteer army here in Michigan through the roof in the final push to next Tuesday.”

“Gov. Huckabee doesn’t have to win Michigan to show well, but the fact that he’s in a position to even threaten Mitt Romney in Romney’s native state is a testimony to how strongly Gov. Huckabee’s message appeals to voters in Michigan and nationwide.”

“Just to stay even, Mitt Romney has had to spend a million dollars on TV ads to buy the support he has,” Glenn said, “but it’s Gov. Huckabee’s heart for the values and concerns of the average American family that is obviously winning the hearts of Michigan voters.”

Glenn said he expected that the socially conservative voters who dominate Republican presidential primaries will continue to move to Huckabee the more they learn about the issues.

“Gov. Huckabee has been a life-long defender of prenatal life and traditional family values, while until running for president, Mitt Romney had a long record of promoting abortion on demand, the homosexual agenda, and gun control.,” Glenn said.

For example, he said, Huckabee helped lead the campaign for a Marriage Protection Amendment to the Arkansas state constitution, while Romney as a candidate for governor in 2002 opposed a marriage amendment to the Massachusetts constitution and Sen. John McCain was one of only a handful of Republican lawmakers who voted against a federal marriage amendment.

Election Story the Media Missed: Pro-Family Truth Campaign Helped Sink Romney in Iowa

Peter LaBarbera, founder of the Republicans For Family Values website, issued the following statement on Mitt Romney’s stunning Iowa Caucuses defeat Thursday:

There is a story the media missed in its reporting of Mitt Romney’s humiliating loss in Iowa to the comparatively vastly under-funded Mike Huckabee: how a dogged “truth campaign” by pro-family advocates –– mostly from Romney’s own state of Massachusetts –– to educate social conservatives on his liberal record on abortion and homosexuality helped seal his defeat.

Much as Romney tried to run away from his pro-abortion and pro-gay past –– and as hard as Romney backers like Hugh Hewitt and Jay Sekulow worked to paper over it and discredit his socially conservative critics –– the truth got out, cracking Romney’s carefully-built facade.

While conservatives leaders tore into Mike Huckabee’s record –– and appropriately knocked him for some past liberal policies –– there seemed to be a kid-gloves approach among most conservative media power-brokers toward Romney and his liberal social record.

Where were the Ann Coulter hit-pieces against the man who once promised that he could do more for Massachusetts homosexuals than Ted Kennedy?

Part of the silence stems from Romney’s (present) strong rhetoric against “gay marriage,” which obscures his past as a strongly pro-homosexual politician who supported “domestic partners” legislation in Massachusetts and failed to back the original state amendment that could have preserved marriage as between a man and a woman in Massachusetts.

Ironically, had Romney done the Reagan-esque thing and stood up to the Massachusetts judges on ”gay marriage,” he’d be a national hero now and running away with the nomination. Instead he went overboard the other way and needlessly (and illegally) passed out “same-sex marriage” licenses.

Romney continues to equivocate on homosexuality: why are pro-family leaders who have spent their lives fighting against homosexual activism now supporting a candidate who, despite experiencing firsthand the effects of radical pro-homosexual laws in Massachusetts –– legalized “same-sex marriage,” state-enforced homosexual adoptions, and pro-homosexuality programs in pubic schools –– is still recommending gay ‘special-rights’ laws to other states? (Meet the Press interview, Dec. 16)

In addition to all his money –– and perhaps in large part because of it –– Romney has the backing of some key pro-life and pro-family leaders, such as Sekulow, Hewitt, pro-life attorney James Bopp and Rev. Lou Sheldon. But try as they might, these accomplished men cannot re-construct Romney’s liberal social record.

“The Mitt Romney Deception” –– Mass Resistance’s devastating report documenting Romney’s long pro-abortion and pro-homosexual history –– is there for all to see.

The question remains: will “pro-family” Romney apologists respect the Republican pro-family grassroots enough to stop carrying water for a candidate who is widely regarded as a phony on the very issues –– life, marriage and preserving the natural family –– that are most important to them?

For identification purposes only, LaBarbera is president of Americans For Truth about Homosexuality (www.americansfortruth.org). Lawyers, Leaders and Activists Issue Warning to Voters:
“Conservative Elites” Covering Up Romney’s Betrayals on Marriage, Life, Children and Constitution.

A growing list of conservative leaders are circulating a strong public warning about “the conservative establishment’s aggressive cover-up of the pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage, pro-gay adoption policies” of Mitt Romney while governor of Massachusetts. The letter accuses Romney’s stable of prominent “conservative” leaders, lawyers and pundits of gross malpractice, ruthless ambition and dishonesty toward voters.

Click HERE to reach the coalition letter, “A Stern Warning to the “Conservative Elites” about Mitt Romney”

It calls on principled conservatives to firmly condemn the rent-a-conservative feeding frenzy on Mitt Romney’s money and the cover-up of his actions as governor — most of which he did while pretending he was forced to either by judges or non-existent laws. Their letter details numerous stunning aspects of Romney’s record that are known to few Americans. These include:

boosting funding for pro-homosexuality indoctrination of schoolchildren, and refusing to order his education officials to enforce parents’ legal right to protect their own children from unwanted indoctrination about homosexuality

falsely claiming Massachusetts law required Catholic adoption and foster care agency to give children to homosexual couples

personally issuing over 180 special same-sex marriage certificates purely at his own discretion, and claiming a law forced him

lying about the state constitution by pretending Massachusetts judges have legal authority to create “gay marriage” and using that deception to force officials to issue marriage licenses illegally modified without the legislature’s approval and perform the ceremonies, thus fulfilling a secret 2002 campaign promise to homosexual groups

claiming that a law somehow “forced’ him to sign a new law subsidizing abortions at $50 each with Planned Parenthood established as the fox guarding the henhouse; and

many other actions in return for campaign promises Romney made to gay groups and the pro-abortion lobby.

“The entire record of Mitt Romney’s political career is that of a man whose Mormon background has no more influenced his zigzagging statements, positions and policies than Ted Kennedy’s or Hillary Clinton’s religion influences theirs,” said John Haskins, of the Parents’ Rights Coalition, who like the other signers from Massachusetts, regrets having voted for Romney four years ago. “Romney’s traveling circus is just political special effects, issue after issue. He looks good, but he’s a walking mannequin. There’s absolutely no core in this man,” added Haskins, who has spent the last three years communicating with law professors, lawyers and judges and documenting the legal malpractice of supposedly “conservative” legal experts covering up how Romney misrepresented the state constitution to claim a court opinion had imposed “same-sex marriage.”

“Behind the empty gestures and deceptive rhetoric, Romney was not pro-life or a defender of marriage by any stretch of the imagination. He was a disaster,” said John O’Gorman, a member of the board of directors of Massachusetts Citizens For Life (MCFL), the state-wide group Romney has been deceptively claiming awarded him a pro-life leadership award. ” The award Romney arranged for himself with the local Pioneer Valley Chapter was the Mullins Award for Political Leadership, not a pro-life award and not approved by MCFL’s state board of directors. We’re blowing the whistle to warn voters who are being lied to by the crowd that makes big money off the pro-life cause. Real moral conservatives must alert the voters to the ongoing deception by cash-driven, pseudo-conservative elites who’ve allied themselves with a lying politician,” added O’Gorman.

”We who have been in the trenches since 1973 know Mitt Romney has not switched to a pro-life stance, as he claims. He has merely switched to a ’states’ rights’ pro-abortion position – attaching a ‘pro-life’ label to it,” said Ray Neary of ProLife Massachusetts. “Just overturning Roe v Wade would not legally prevent a single unborn child from being destroyed – but only change the locale,” added Neary, who is also a past President of Massachusetts Citizens For Life (MCFL),

Three other senior persons at MCFL agreed the pro-life award Romney has been boasting about is very dubious and does not represent any decision taken by the group’s state-wide leadership. MCFL had considered Romney a hard-core pro-abortion politician who had no interest in meeting with them. To get the award, Romney paid $15,000 and went around MCFL’s state headquarters to deal with a willing local politician who arranged the award through a local chapter.

“MCFL was in financial difficulty when Romney’s check came in and has been reluctant to contradict him publicly,” Haskins said. “There are some very fine people associated with MCFL, but to let Romney hustle voters with this conveniently cooked-up pro-life award is a tragic mistake. It allows lawyers and consultants like Jay Sekulow, Jim Bopp and Mark DeMoss, who have gotten rich over the years wheeling and dealing with the Republican elites, to call the honest pro-life heroes liars and to mislead voters. We have no choice but to speak up. If Mitt Romney outruns his record in Massachusetts and buys his way into the White House it will be partly because people who know the facts did not expose this pro-life award as not much more than a dime-store rip-off.”

William Cotter, president of another Massachusetts pro-life group, Operation Rescue-Boston, agreed: “It’s just not possible to honestly call Romney’s record ‘pro-life — even after the just-in-time staged conversion. Mitt Romney is not pro-life. On balance, his policies were pro-abortion.”

“The state constitution is brutally clear that the judges had no power to legalize same-sex ‘marriage’ or to order the governor or the legislature to. To hide the fact that he is personally responsible for it, Romney’s been buying up big-name conservatives like cattle at an auction,” said “Atty. Robert Paine,” the pen name of a prominent attorney who wrote the unrefuted and authoritative proof that Romney lied about the state constitution and misrepresented the Goodridge court opinion as having “legalized” homosexual marriage. “Lots of the lawyers and law professors covering up for Romney or who are silent have a vested interest or have close colleagues who do,” added Paine, whose legal arguments (“The Governor’s New Clothes; How Mitt Romney Brought Same-Sex Marriage To America”) have been affirmed by numerous law professors, attorneys and retired judges. “There’s no way to describe this other than malpractice. Romney and his lawyers are lying about judges and laws forcing his actions on homosexual marriage, gay adoption and $50 abortions,” Paine said.

“For some bizarre reason the mere fact that Romney’s never been divorced and goes to a temple regularly is supposed to negate the fact that he’s extremely liberal,” said Linda Harvey, President of Mission America, an author, columnist and national expert on the rapid expansion of the pro-homosexuality curriculum in schools. “Gullible conservative voters eat that clean image stuff up,” she added. “That’s why the media and the establishment thinks he can part the Red Sea. He’s the perfect Republican liberal who can seduce conservatives and then leave them heartbroken as he did in Massachusetts. He used his Republican and Mormon identity to push through radical policies on gay marriage, abortion and pro-homosexual school programs that Ted Kennedy always dreamed about.”

“A clean-cut family man who after six decades in Mormonism was still strongly pro-abortion and pro-homosexual unions, pushed gay adoption, actively funded pro-homosexuality indoctrination in schools over parents’ objections and was far sloppier than any Democrat with constitutions… Now there’s a politician the establishment can trust,” said Peter LaBarbera, founder of the Republicans For Family Values website and president of Americans for Truth.

“The Mitt Romney that governed Massachusetts was a man totally without the core principles that Mormons espouse,” said Gregg Jackson, a talk radio host in Boston and author of Conservative Comebacks to Liberal Lies. “This man is throwing tens of millions of his own dollars into projecting a conservative, pro-family, pro-traditional marriage, pro-life image since he decided to run for president. He wasn’t even a real economic conservative, if you scratch beneath his smooth talking points. He’s the Wizard of Oz, a fake. I’m a professional and Romney fooled me for a good while.”

“He kept on saying he was being forced to do these things, by the law, by the judges,” Haskins said. “Who bothers to do the research to find out if the law or the state constitution says what he claims? The media sure didn’t. They were beside themselves with glee. And he kept on finding supposed ‘conservatives’ to vouch for him. We’d find out months later there was money or career opportunities involved…like Jay Sekulow’s son — a student — getting paid as a consultant for Romney. Most of the conservative establishment rolled over for this con man or went silent when their friends did. The only word for it is malpractice,” Haskins added.

“Anyone who takes seriously the high-flying conservatives vouching for him has no clue how terribly money and power have corrupted once respected conservatives,” said Diane Gramley, president of the American Family Association of Pennsylvania.

The letter documents how the Massachusetts Constitution — and previous admissions by the court itself, including one year earlier — obliterate Romney’s, Sekulow’s and Bopp’s dishonest claim that Massachusetts judges forced Romney to bypass the Legislature and illegally order officials to perform homosexual “marriages.”

Besides veteran social conservative leaders and writers, the signers include a retired administrative judge and former Assistant Minority Leader of the Massachusetts Senate, a former Assistant U.S. Attorney and other attorneys from Massachusetts. The overwhelming majority have no loyalties to any other candidate, none have cited Romney’s Mormonism as a primary concern, and all have investigated Romney’s record far more than many of those vouching for him. Almost all of those in Massachusetts voted for him four years ago.

A Stern Warning to the “Conservative Elites” about Mitt Romney

Through their silence, the elites are assisting a political cancer that has profound consequences for our children and grandchildren

We write the following because we must oppose the deception of the American people by powerful and influential conservatives. Many in the conservative grassroots no longer trust the “conservative” media, lawyers and leaders, whom they see as serving the GOP establishment regardless of the will of the conservative base, regardless of the truth.

Most of us are not allied with any presidential candidate. But we are troubled by the unethical and Orwellian cover-up of Mitt Romney’s role in catastrophic events in Massachusetts, once the cradle of American liberty. Actions he took as governor were beyond the pale. As Romney twice explained to the homosexual “Log Cabin” Republicans, it would take a Republican to enact their agenda ( www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2006/12/romneys_thought.html ).

Attorneys, journalists and pundits must be fearless and selfless watchdogs of politicians and guardians of democracy. This is a sacred trust that is being defiled. Silence about ugly truths, such as the points enumerated below, is a betrayal of the lofty status we claim in a constitutional republic. Pay the price of courage. Tell America the truth.

Phony Pro-Life “Conversion”

Issue # 1. Mitt Romney established abortion as a “healthcare benefit” in his own government-run healthcare plan at $50 per abortion — after his supposed “pro-life conversion.” (http://www.mahealthconnector.org/portal/binary/com.epicentric.contentmanagement.servlet.ContentDeliveryServlet/About%2520Us/Connector%2520Programs/Additional%2520Resources/cc_benefits1220_pt234.pdf ) He created a permanent, official government role for an unelected Planned Parenthood representative on the health care board.

Issue #2. Romney’s well-timed “pro-life” conversion for the Republican primary pulled a “states’ rights” committment out of nowhere to hedge his political bets. His claim that states’ rights trump the unalienable right to life is inconsistent and unprincipled: he simultaneously opposes an amendment to protect human life, but claims to support one to preserve marriage! What happened to Romney’s committment to “states’ rights?”

Issue #3. Unforced by anyone, Romney overruled his own Commissioner of Public Health and lied about state law in order to compel Catholic hospitals to issue abortifacient pills — in violation of their freedom of religion enshrined in the United States and Massachusetts Constitutions. Using exactly the crafty political theatre he employed to cover his actions on same-sex “marriage” and homosexual adoption, Romney posed as defender of the very thing he was destroying, gallantly “asking” the legislature to create a special “religious exemption” for Catholic institutions. Even Democrat former governor Mike Dukakis publicly agreed with Romney’s commissioner of public health that state law already grants a “religious exemption.”

“Gay Marriage,” Gay Adoption and Pro-Homosexuality Propaganda In Schools

Issue #1. In another flagrant lie about the law, Romney told Catholic Charities’ adoption and foster agency they had to give children to homosexuals even when normal mother-father families were lined up to give them a home. Again, he deployed his standard smokescreen, gallantly proposing a “special exemption,” with a wink of his eye to the militantly pro-homosexuality legislature. Again, he got caught. Former governor Dukakis pointed out that the “state law” that Romney was citing as requiring gay adoption was non-existent. It was merely an executive regulation that a governor can rescind with a few strokes of his pen. Romney was apparently fulfilling secret 2002 campaign promises ( http://massresistance.blogspot.com/2007/12/is-romney-working-with-log-cabin.html ) to Republican homosexual power brokers whose endorsement he coveted and received. He had sought no backing from social conservatives.

Issue #2. Romney says the Boy Scouts should accept homosexual scoutmasters and that homosexuals have “a legitimate interest” in adopting or producing and raising children.

Issue #3. Though Romney pretends he opposed homosexual “marriage,” he did the opposite. In 2002 he opposed a marriage amendment that would have prevented homosexual “marriage.” 120,000 citizens, including his wife, son and daughter-in-law signed the amendment petition. Romney’s militant pro-homosexuality Republican predecessor, Governor Jane Swift, and Democrat legislators openly violated the constitution to deny the citizens their right to vote on the amendment. Even the ultra-liberal Massachusetts court ruled that they were violating their oaths and the Constitution. Romney failed to oppose their subversion of the law or to defend the people’s right to amend their own Constitution. ( www.lifesite.net/ldn/2007/may/07051409.html )

Issue #4. Since the notorious Goodridge court opinion discovering a constitutional right to “gay marriage,” Romney has methodically lied about the judges’ legal authority and his own legal duty to enforce the Constitution. As professor of jurisprudence Hadley Arkes pointed out, under the state Constitution, the court has no jurisdiction over marriage law. An opinion issued without jurisdiction is legally void and cannot be “enforced.” Romney also knew that the same judges had recently admitted they have no power over the legislature or governor.

The Legislature never “obeyed” the judges by changing the marriage statute to legalize “gay marriage.” Under the state constitution that was the end of the line. The court neither ordered nor even suggested any intervention by the governor. Many lawyers and law professors (including Hugh Hewitt: http://massresistance.blogspot.com/2007/12/hugh-hewitt-told-romney-to-defy-mass.html ) told Romney to ignore the unconstitutional Goodridge opinion and embarrass the judges. Mysteriously, Romney rejected their advice. Why? The New York Times finally revealed four years later that, to win a coveted endorsement, Romney secretly promised the homosexual Log Cabin Republicans in 2002 that he would not defend the constitution against an illegal attempt by the judges to sneak same-sex “marriage” past the voters. ( www.nytimes.com/2007/09/08/us/politics/08romney.html?_r=3&hp=&oref=slogin&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin )

When the Legislature did not legalize homosexual “marriage,” to fulfill his secret promise, Romney claimed that the judges had. This is a blatant lie plainly refuted by the state constitution Romney swore to uphold! He quickly found willing “conservative” lawyers, pundits and “pro-family leaders” to back him up. Rather than challenge the motives, integrity and “expertise” of their own friends and colleagues, most of the conservative establishment suddenly went silent. Ignoring his oath to faithfully enforce the statutes, Romney ordered officials to violate the marriage statutes and perform homosexual “marriages.” His Department of Public Health illegally bypassed the legislature by changing the marriage certificates from “husband” and “wife” to “Party A” and “Party B.”

Romney gave orders that illegally usurped the exclusive constitutional authority of the Legislature, as proven in this devastating “Letter to Governor Mitt Romney from Pro-Family Leaders.” ( www.massresistance.org/docs/marriage/romney/dec_letter/letter.pdf ). He violated multiple Articles of the Massachusetts Constitution, including one of the most vital principles of American government, which John Adams stated more forcefully than anywhere else in American law:

“In the government of this commonwealth…the executive shall never exercise the legislative and judicial powers, …the judicial shall never exercise the legislative and executive powers, …to the end it may be a government of laws and not of men. — Article XXX, Part The First

We deplore the glaring refusal of the “conservative” establishment to face the implications of a devastating article by a leading constitutional scholar, illuminating why pro-establishment attorneys have covered up Romney’s unconstitutional actions:

“The deeper failure must go to the man who stood as governor, holding the levers of the executive. And if it is countdown for marriage…it is countdown also for Mitt Romney, whose political demise may be measured along the scale of moves he could have taken and the record of his receding, step by step… [I]t became clear that even conservative lawyers had come to incorporate, and accept, the premises that gave to the courts a position of supremacy in our constitutional schemes.” — Hadley Arkes, Professor of Jurisprudence, Amherst College ( The Missing Governor, National Review Online May 17, 2004 )

We equally deplore the refusal to acknowledge the obvious truth in highly respected conservative attorney Phyllis Schlafly’s assessment:

“Massachusetts public officials … are groveling before the four judges… (Romney) said: ‘We obviously have to follow the law as provided by the [Court] and … decide ‘what kind of statute we can fashion which is consistent with the law.’
But what ‘law’? There is no law that requires or even allows same-sex marriages.” — Phyllis Schlafly ( It’s Time To Rebuke The Judicial Oligarchy (EagleForum.org, Dec. 3, 2003 )

Schlafly was right, as any honest and competent lawyer knows. The Massachusetts Constitution powerfully refutes Romney’s entire story that the judges changed marriage law and forced him to give unconstitutional orders:

“[T]he people of this commonwealth are not controllable by any other laws than those to which their constitutional representative body have given their consent.” Article X, Part the First of the Massachusetts Constitution

“The power of suspending the laws, or the execution of the laws, ought never to be exercised but by the legislature…” Article XX, Part the First of the Massachusetts Constitution

Mitt Romney created homosexual “marriage.” His “conservative” legal experts are aggressively covering up both his role and the plain language of the Supreme Law of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Issue #5. Though Romney admitted the Goodridge opinion was not based on the Constitution and that the judges had exceeded their power, he opposed a citizen’s drive to remove the four rogue judges who violated their oaths. ( http://massresistance.blogspot.com/2007/09/iowa-patriots-seek-to-remove-gay.html )

Issue #6. Though Romney says same-sex “marriage” will damage religious freedom and harm children, who need both a mother and a father, he personally issued more than 190 special one-day certificates to allow homosexual “marriages” to be performed by legally unqualified persons. He claims he was “just applying the marriage statutes evenly.” But as Phyllis Schlafly reminded America, and even the outlaw Goodridge judges admitted, the Massachusetts statutes do not allow homosexual “marriages,” despite Romney’s false claim that the court “legalized” homosexual “marriage. Moreover, a governor is not obliged to issue any special marriage certificates to anyone. Since Romney says same-sex “marriage” will harm children and erode religious freedom, why did he violate the marriage statutes and issue hundreds of special permits? ( www.massresistance.org/docs/marriage/romney/record/ )

Issue #7. As governor, to please Massachusetts’ militant homosexual groups, Romney aggressively BOOSTED government funding for pro-homosexuality indoctrination, starting in kindergarten. He refused to defend schoolchildren and parents’ rights against this indoctrination. He refused to order his education officials to obey the law guaranteeing that parents’ can protect their children from sexual brainwashing. ( www.massresistance.org/docs/marriage/romney/record/ ) This is a continuation of his views since 1994 when he opposed congressional efforts to protect children by banning federal funding to public schools that encourage “homosexuality as a positive lifestyle alternative.” His deference to militant homosexual groups’ “right” to indictrinate other people’s children was jaw-dropping:

“I think that’s a dangerous precedent in general. I would have opposed that. It also grossly misunderstands the gay community by insinuating that there’s an attempt to proselytize a gay lifestyle on the part of the gay community. I think it’s wrong-headed…” ( www.boston.com/news/politics/politicalintelligence/2006/12/romneys_thought.html )

With their silence about the illegal actions and toxic legacy of Mitt Romney, the elites are assisting a political cancer that has profound consequences for our future. If anyone has convinced themselves that so-called “same sex marriage” is a fringe issue and not a grave threat to the rule of law and to children they should read Maggie Gallagher’s stunning article “Banned in Boston.” They should also investigate the pro-homosexuality indoctrination of Massachusetts children (“It’s 1984 in Massachusetts – And Big Brother Is Gay”) which had been covert, but in the aftermath of Romney’s illegal orders imposing homosexual marriage, is swallowing up parents’ most fundamental right to protect their children and control their moral education. To remain silent about the re-engineering of the human family and child psychology, and the active and dishonest role Romney has played, is a dereliction of our highest duties.

We are among those who believe that same-sex “marriage,” homosexual adoption and pro-homosexuality indoctrination of schoolchildren hasten the decline of Western Civilization in its most crucial aspects, whether the elites face that and comprehend it or not. Yet many who have the greatest obligation are cowering in the shadows or even aiding the deception. Our silence is a fatal abdication of duty to our children and future generations, a breech of faith. It is a betrayal of the honor of young soldiers dying overseas for principles that we decided in our hearts long ago require no profound sacrifice from the elites.

The truth is this: Mitt Romney’s fictional defense of natural marriage, childhood innocence, life in the womb and constitutional governance is sustained only by our silence in the face of overwhelming propaganda. Edmund Burke famously said, “All that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.”

Dante went further: “The hottest places in hell are reserved for those who in times of great moral crises maintain their neutrality.”

It is very telling of today’s “conservatism” — an endless regression of sophist ironies and nuances, dissolving, in the end, into absolutely nothing at all — that dire warnings from ancient voices seem like faint, distant echoes bouncing absurdly against rock walls far below our feet, beneath a precipice that we scaled long ago in the conceits of our modern conservative minds.

To continue in silence or in support of the craftiness and ruthless ambition of Willard Mitt Romney betrays generations past, present and future, including our own children and grandchildren.

Pay the price of courage, friends. Tell America the truth.

Mitt Romney’s Christmas Present to the ‘Gay’ Lobby Should End Pro-Family Leaders’ Support for his Candidacy: LaBarbera

December 26, 2007

CHICAGO, Illinois – Peter LaBarbera, longtime pro-family advocate and founder of the Republicans For Family Values website (www.rffv.org), is calling on pro-family leaders who have endorsed Mitt Romney to withdraw their support for his candidacy in light of his recent comments on NBC’s “Meet the Press” supporting pro-homosexual “sexual orientation” state laws.

“Mitt Romney’s Christmas present to the homosexual lobby disqualifies him as a pro-family leader,” LaBarbera said. “Laws that treat homosexuality as a civil right are being used to promote homosexual ‘marriage,’ same-sex adoption and pro-homosexuality indoctrination of schoolchildren. These same laws pose a direct threat to the freedom of faith-minded citizens and organizations to act on their religious belief that homosexual behavior is wrong.

“Romney may have had a late conversion on abortion, but it appears his ninth-inning flip-flop on homosexuality is falling short due to his strong commitment to ‘gay rights,’” LaBarbera said. (See the ‘Mitt Romney Deception’ report at http://massresistance.org/docs/marriage/romney/record/#homo_marriage.) “Now some pro-family leaders –– who have raised millions of dollars over the years opposing ‘gay’ activism –– will need to explain how they can go on supporting an openly pro-homosexual-agenda candidate.”

LaBarbera said it is “inconceivable after Massachusetts’ twin disasters involving homosexual ‘marriage’ and homosexual adoption that Romney now is recommending pro-homosexual ‘orientation’ laws –– long derided as “special rights” among social conservatives — to the rest of the nation.

“In Romney’s own state of Massachusetts, the state ‘sexual orientation’ nondiscrimination law laid the groundwork for homosexual activists’ campaign to legalize ‘same-sex marriage’ –– which then-Gov. Romney brought to fruition with his unnecessary and illegal directive granting marriage licenses to homosexual partners,” LaBarbera said. “The same pro-gay state law also forced Boston’s Catholic Charities to shut down its century-old adoption agency because it would not pledge to place children in homosexual-led households against Catholic teaching.

“Given Romney’s extensive pro-homosexual record and willingness now to depart from principle on this crucial issue, should we trust a ‘President Romney’ not to reverse course again on federal pro-homosexual laws such as ‘Hate Crimes’ and ENDA (Employment Nondiscrimination Act)?” LaBarbera said.

The following is excerpted from Romney’s “Meet the Press” interview December 16 with Tim Russert:

MR. RUSSERT: You said [in 1994] that you would sponsor [Sen. Ted Kennedy's federal] Employment Nondiscrimination Act. Do you still support it?
GOV. ROMNEY: At the state level. I think it makes sense at the state level for states to put in provision of this.
MR. RUSSERT: Now, you said you would sponsor it at the federal level.
GOV. ROMNEY: I would not support at the federal level, and I changed in that regard because I think that policy makes more sense to be evaluated or to be implemented at the state level.

Republicans For Family Values (www.rffv.org) is a website dedicated to defending pro-life and pro-natural-family principles within the GOP. For identification purposes only, LaBarbera is also president of Americans For Truth about Homosexuality (www.americansfortruth.org).

His wife gave a $150 donation to the leading pro-abortion group in conjunction with the event.

ABC News’ Rick Klein Reports:

Mitt Romney attended a fund-raising reception for Planned Parenthood in 1994 in conjunction with a $150 donation his wife made to the organization — notwithstanding Romney’s contention that he had “no recollection” of the circumstances under which his wife gave money to the abortion-rights group.

In the photograph obtained by ABC News, Romney and his wife, Ann, are shown in a yellow-and-white tent chatting with local political activists, including Nicki Nichols Gamble, who was then president and CEO of the Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts.

Nichols Gamble — whose back is the camera in the photograph — told ABC that the event was a Planned Parenthood fundraising “house party” in Cohasset, Mass., in June 1994. At the time, Romney, R-Mass., was locked in a tight Senate campaign with Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., and was touting his support for abortion rights.

That event, Nichols Gamble said, was the occasion where Ann Romney wrote her $150 check — drafted on a joint checking account she had with her husband — to Planned Parenthood of Massachusetts.

“They were both there, and I remember very well chatting with both of them, and talking about his support for the pro-choice agenda,” she said. “We talked about the fact that he was taking a pro-choice position on the issues, and we were very pleased about that.”

When asked by reporters earlier this year whether the former governor had ever donated money to Planned Parenthood, the Romney campaign said no. Aides subsequently conceded that Romney’s wife, Ann, wrote a $150 check to the group in 1994. …

…Nichols Gamble said she”s surprised Romney has no memory of the fund-raising event.

“I can understand that he might not remember the check — it’s surprising to me that he would not remember the event,” she said. “His main motivation for being there was a political motivation.”

Check out this anti-Romney ad created by the homosexual activist Log Cabin Republicans which, strangely, does not mention Romney’s flip-flops on homosexuality. We agree with Log Cabin that Romney is a political chameleon, but it’s odd that Log Cabin chose to highlight issues other than the one that defines their organization.

Perhaps the LCR strategists understood that drawing attention to Romney’s support for a Federal Marriage Amendment would actually help him among Iowa voters. Regardless of the reason why, Log Cabin’s current and past support for “pro-choice” Republicans shows them to be the liberal special interest group that they are.

So if you’re a pro-life Republican, you’re a “religious extremist”? That’s pure bigotry and the sort of demonization we’re used to from the Left, not “conservatives” (as the Log Cabinites often claim to be). Republicans would be as foolish to drop their principled pro-life platform defending the unborn as they would be to embrace pro-homosexual “civil unions” or “same-sex marriage.” — Peter LaBarbera

There is great angst among pro-family activists who have led the fight against homosexual activism about Mitt Romney’s liberal social record — that is, the one he is now running away from. The most principled pro-family activists in Romney’s home state of Massachusetts are the most troubled by his presidential candidacy. They don’t trust him.

And neither do homosexual activists like the Log Cabin Republicans, which is running anti-Romney ads in Iowa highlighting his flip-flog on abortion and gun control. Funny how the TV ad that Log Cabin produced says absolutely nothing about homosexuality (ostensibly their defining issue), although it does use their code-word for bashing Christian conservatives: “religious extremists.”

Listen HERE to John Haskins of the Parents Rights Coalition in Massachusetts explain how then-Mass. Gov. Mitt Romney made the unnecessary and, Haskins reminds us, illegal decision to pass out “same-sex marriage” licenses. Haskins explains how Romney’s “gay marriage” act violated the state constitution and, perhaps most shockingly, fulfilled a 2002 campaign promise he made to Massachusetts Log Cabin Republican activists not to lead the charge against homosexual “marriage” — as the New York Times reports HERE.
